How to remove ^M character on Solaris

How to remove ^M character on Solaris – the character ^M usually appears when you transfered a Windows edited files into UNIX kind of system, be it Solaris, AIX, HPUX, Redhat, Centos; thoose UNIX & Linux alike.

There are some programs that you can use like dos2unix, by default this is not installed in Solaris system.

The easiest way to convert to unix file or to remove ^M is by editing that file in UNIX box using VI editor, utilising the substitue option command as below

:%s/^M//g

Note: it will not work if you type ^ followed by M, you must press ctrl+v followed by ctrl+m, in summary the command will be

:%s/ctrl+v ctrl+m//g

In summary – the easiest way to remove ^M character on Solaris box

  • Transfer the files into UNIX Solaris box
  • Edit the files with vi Editor
  • Use substitution option as shown above
  • Save the file
  • Done

It is available for purchase via the biggest Online Shopping Mall – Amazon.com and BestBuy.com, unfortunately it does NOT ship the wonderful Chromebook to Malaysia, and only cover major country like US, UK, & Europe.

Yes, I’ve tried place my Google Chromebook order on Amazon.com, unfortunately it returned “Cannot be shipped to the selected address”
